Thibaut Courtois: 9

World class. Courtois had no chance of the lonely purpose of Pachuca, but was otherwise a brick wall. He came up early with an important doubles that prevented Madrid from going down, and made some big savings in both halves.

Trent Alexander-Sarnold: 7

Keep growing in this system. Delivered a key ball in the box which led to Garcia’s involvement in Madrid’s second goal. His progressive death is going to be a real asset

Raul Roast:

The early red card could have derailed all evening. It was an unnecessary challenge his team disposed of. Both Xabi Alonso and Courtois asked him to be better in situations like this. A learning experience, hopefully.

Dean Huijsen: 8.5

Phenomenal show. In possession, confidently under pressure, and showing its series with a perfect breakdown to Vinicius in building Madrid’s third goal. A complete performance of the young defender.

Fran Garcia: 7

Energetic. He continued to make the overlapping runs on the left, with width and exhaust. His effort was rewarded with a help.

Aurélien Tchouameni: 7.5

Adaptable and rock solid. After the red of Asencio, Tchouaméni hurled in the middle back and was just as reliable there as in midfield. Read the game well and keep things stable in the build -up.

Arda Güler: 8.5

Electric. Played deeper than usual and took over a starting role seamlessly. Madrid’s second goal with a smooth finish scored and helped call the midfield to attack with a smooth 1 touch. Also definitely put on work. The complete package today.

Jude Bellingham: 8

Very solid. Bellingham’s influence has grown as the game carried. Scored a composed, clinical purpose and was a constant outlet in transition. Awarded the official man-of-the-match.

Fede Valverde: 8

The engine. Played higher on the field, but adjusted when Madrid dropped to 10. His press and tackle was the key to turning the tide. His third goal – a solo run and finish – was a dagger.

Vinicius Jr.: 7.5

A little sharper. Faster decisions made, better passes and were more locked in general. His movement and ball lining helped to create the third goal of Madrid. Looked more confident than recent excursions.

Gonzalo Garcia: 8.5

Fantastic 45 minutes. Had his fingerprints on the first two goals of Madrid, including a beautiful dismissal to Güler. His link game and spatial awareness were from the highest level. Very mature show for his age.

REPLACEMENTS:

Brahim Diaz: 7.5

Immediate impact. Did not overcome things and assisted Valverde’s purpose at a smart pace. Energy and control provided.

Dani Ceballos: 8

Big Komo off the bench. Looked dynamically, pressed well and put the ball under pressure with calm. Constantly offered himself for the pace.

Luka Modric: 6.5

Neat and composed, but could have done better defensively on Pachuca’s goal. That said, he helped bring order in midfield during the closing phase.

Antonio Rüdiger: 6

A little rust and too much committed to some challenges. Fairly enough – it was his first minutes since he returned. Need time to regain rhythm.

Victor Muñor: n/a

Came too late to be judged.
