Albuquerque –

On June 21, 2025, UFC MMA heavyweight champion Jon Jones announced his retirement from the sport in a social media post:

“This decision comes to a lot of reflection, and I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the journey I have experienced over the years.” He closed the post by adding that “MMA always part of who I am, and I am excited to see how I can continue to contribute to the sport and inspire others in new ways.”

But there was more to the story, as the Albuquerque Police Department recently responded to an accident with two vehicles on February 24, 2025 near San Mateo and Lomas. Officers arrived at the scene to find a woman naked from the middle in the front passenger seat of a car. She indicated that Jon Jones, the UFC fighter, originally drove her around, but fled on the scene. According to the criminal complaint, the woman showed signs of intoxication.

The woman told officials that Jones was taking her to one of his residences in Albuquerque to drink and eat a few mushrooms. The woman said she did not have a bottom because of a bathroom accident at Jones’ home. They allegedly drove to her home to get more clothes before the accident.

APD officers called Jones for follow -up and when they talked to him, he beat his words over the phone and sounded like he was under the influence of something. During the accident investigation, Jones continued to call and text the woman, the complaint stated that he had called her 13 times.

Jones is not strange to the law enforcement of Metro. Jones’ previous encounters with the local police include an accident in 2015 with a pregnant woman; a 2016 quote for racing; a disorderly behavior of 2019 at a Strip Club; a 2020 charge for DWI, open container and negligent use of a deadly weapon; And then an alleged assault of 2024 from a drug tester who did one of his homes for a random drug test.

In police meetings outside Albuquerque, Jones was arrested in 2012 for driving under the influence (indicating) in Binghamton, New York, while serving as the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion after crashing his Bentley in a utility pole. In the early hours of September 24, 2021, Jones was arrested by officers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. During this arrest, he became upset and hit his head against the cutting of a police vehicle, which led to an initial charge of crimes because he injured or tampered with a vehicle. In the Las Vegas incident, Jones entered into a plea agreement in December 2021.

Jones was officially charged last week on June 17, 2025 for leaving the scene of an accident without great bodily damage.
