Scottie Scheffler went to the Travelers Championship on Saturday as co-leader with many players on his heels, but it was difficult not to see him as the overwhelming favorite after 36 holes.
Then the 37th happened.
Scheffler opened on Moving Day on a shocking On-Scheffler-like fashion. He missed the Fairway on the tea on the 431-yard, par-4, and then left a 119-yard approach match and ended up in a bunker in front of the green country.
Two unpitacular shots, but it was the third to turn the hole.
Scheffler cut his bunker shot and flew the green and left himself a terrible angle on the subsequent uphill slide, which he left just shortly and watched to roll about ten yards from his right.
Scheffler still couldn’t get up and down in an uncomfortable position, so it was a 7 on the scorecard.
Scheffler jumped back over the next six holes with two birds and a Bogey, but he gave everything back-and then a few on the eighth para. He found water from the tea, and then missed an 11-foot-putt that would save Bogey and shed a 5.
