Porticello, Italy (AP)-a luxurious British flag superstar that sank in Sicily last year, killing the UK technology magnat, Mike Lynch and six others, rose from the water on Saturday while the rescue recovery crews completed the complex operation to bring it to the shore for further investigation.

“Superyacht Bayesian Hull today has been successfully recovered and certainly by the sea on the coast of northern Sicily,” said TMC Darita, the company performing recovery. “This follows a delicate lifting procedure that started early today.”

The TMC added that the hull will continue to be held “in an elevated position to allow expert rescue staff to complete the controls and preparations” before its transport to the Sicilian Port of the term imerese on Sunday.

The floating crane platform will move Bayesian to the port, where a special steel cradle is waiting for it. The ship will be made available to investigators to help determine the cause of the sinking.

Bayesian sank on August 19 from Porticello, near Palermo, during a violent storm while Lynch was treating friends on a navigation to celebrate his release two months ago in the US with cheating charges. Lynch, his daughter and the other five died. Fifteen people survived, including the captain and all crew members except the chef.

Italian authorities are conducting a full criminal investigation.

The ship is slowly raised from the seabed, 50 meters (165 meters) down, over the last three days to allow steel lifting straps, hobbies and harnesses to be provided under the keel.

Eight steel lifting strips were used to place the hull straight and form a portion of a steel wire -raising system that began lifting the boat from the water on Saturday. As it grew superyacht, the seawater was pumped by the hull.

Bayesian lacks his 72 -meter mast (236 feet), which was cut off and left on the seabed for future removal. Mastu had to be disconnected to allow the hull to be brought in an almost right position that would allow the craft to rise.

British investigators said in a temporary report released last month that the yacht crashed by “extreme wind” and could not be healed.

The report said Bayesian’s crew had chosen the place where it was overwhelmed by prediction storms. Wind speeds exceeded 70 knots (81 mph) at the time of sinking and “violent” knocked down the ship at an angle of 90 degrees in under 15 seconds.

Lynch, who sold autonomy, a software manufacturer he founded in 1996, at Hewlett-Packard for $ 11 billion in 2011, was acquitted of fraud charges in June 2024 by a federal court jury in San Francisco.
