Caitlin Clark is used to seeing the ball going through the net, but even the biggest stars and best shooters are inevitably going through a slump.

In the midst of a West Coast swing, the Indiana Fever lost their second match in a row Sunday after a 89-81 defeat in the hands of the Las Vegas Aces. Clark had a 19-point double double double double, but struggled to connect just one of her ten three-point attempts.

The fever fell on the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday on a night where Clark 0 shot at tries and 3 for 14 off the field, with 11 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Since Indiana went westward after a major home victory over the Connecticut Sun, which clinched the fever a place in the commissioner’s final, Clark is only 1 for 17 of three-point country.

After the loss in Las Vegas on Sunday, Clark opened over the tough shooting stretch with an honest assessment of the past two games.

“There will be stretches that are very good, and there will be stretching that is not so good,” Clark told reporters Postgame Sunday via the Indy star‘s Chloe Peterson. “Obviously, it’s frustrating because you want them to go in. Even tonight, I felt that there were a few who felt really good from my hand and that they just didn’t come off. ‘

She certainly influenced the game in other ways. And the attention that she goes beyond the perimeter opens the rest of the floor to the fever, but she is used to seeing the three ball in volume drop. She acknowledged that it was only a matter of time before the shot began to fall again and in the meantime she would work to influence the offense outside her deep shot.

“It was definitely a difficult night,” she continues. “I had to find a way to keep shooting and staying confident in myself, because I know I put the time in. I don’t feel like it’s something that is necessarily off, but yes, it would have been nice if they had gone off. ‘

Before the 1 for 17 stretches, Clark went to tries in her previous two games, both of which were both wins. There is nothing to panic for one of the WNBA’s best shooters. She has a chance to turn it over in the next game of the fever, while they finish their road journey Tuesday night in Seattle against the storm.
