The Mets are in the process of signing Infielder Pablo Reyes to a minor league agreement, according to a report of Mlb.com’s anthony dicomo. Reyes recently elected a free agency after being appointed by the Yankees for the command Giancarlo Stanton Returned earlier this week from the injured list. He was dedicated to Triple-a Syracuse.
Reyes, 31, is a veteran of parts of seven MLB seasons at this point. This is the second consecutive season where Reyes was part of the Mets organization. He started the 2024 campaign with the Red Sox, but was traded after New York in May last year. He briefly joined the timetable as a depth option and made a single appearance as a pincher where he scored a run before being named for the assignment and the minors directly designated.
Apart from his short time in Queens last year, Reyes has appeared in the Yankees, Red Sox, Brewers and Pirates organizations over the years. He made his MLB debut in Pittsburgh in 2018 and achieved an impressive .293/.349/.483 in the first cup of coffee, but could not repeat the results in 2019. He missed the entire 2020 season due to a Ped suspension and the organization did not leave long after. Reyes signed with the Brewers on a minor league agreement before the 2021 season and was below the average of the board on the board in 56 games for the club during two seasons, with a .258/.330/.344 (84 WRC+) during his time in Milwaukee.
Reyes joined the Red Sox before the 2023 season and enjoyed his strongest season in the majors with Boston. Over 64 matches as a plateton partner for David Hamilton On the midfield, Reyes hit a reverent .287/.339/.377 with a WRC+ of 93 while beating 11.4% with a career low. Unfortunately, it seems that the strong performance was increasingly a flash in the pan, as it only hit 0.187/.237/.220 (26 WRC+) with a strike rate of 29.6% in 98 plate performances between the Red Sox and Yankees over the past two seasons.
While Reyes is hardly a good option to offer value with the bat, he is a versatile defender with a lot of speed. It is enough to make him an interesting bank option for many MLB clubs, and it is at least an injury or two that can make him a viable consideration for the Mets. Nick Madrigal and Brand winds is already on the shelf for New York as things stand, with youngsters Luisangel Acuna and Ronny Mauricio Currently on the MLB bank. If the Mets decide that either the young player can benefit from ordinary bats at Triple-A, or another injury, Reyes will compete with other non-raster players such as such as like Donovan Walton and David Villas to be the next man.
