2:50 pm: The Dodgers officially made it and announced that they purchased Penrod in exchange for cash considerations. Right Dressi sasaki was transferred to the 60-day injured list as the corresponding active grid movement. Sasaki has been on the IL since mid-May due to a shoulder restriction. He could reinstate 60 days from that initial IL posting, which would be in mid-July. He has recently been closed of throwing and has an uncertain timeline.
13:37 pm: The Dodgers and Red Sox agreed to a trade that will send left -hander Zach Penrod from Boston to Los Angeles, reports Chris Cotillo from Masslive.com. The Sox appointed Penrod earlier this week for assignment in the wake of the Rafael devers Blockbuster, while obtaining two players of 40 moons (Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison) and trade only one.
Penrod, 28, is an interesting story. He signed as an unprepared free agent at the Rangers in 2018 and briefly pitched in their system before being cut loosened during the pandemic shortened 2020 season. He then spent three years in Independent Pioneer League before catching the eyes of Red Sox Scouts and returning to affiliate ball.
A nice minor league shown across several levels in 2024 pushed Penrod on the 40-man roast. He threw 62 2/3 frames over three levels and scored a 4.16 era with a large strike rate of 34.8%, but a similar increase of 12.4%. The Sox called him to the majors in the second half of the season, and he took four innings on the standings and held opponents on three strokes and four runs with three strokes.
Penrod was in the mix for a bullet that was on its way after the 2025 season, but an elbow injury in the spring exercise knocked him out for almost three months. He returned to the hill at the end of May and pitched 7 1/3 minor league innings. It was a mixed bag. He allowed four runs and only seven strokes, while pushing nine of 36 overs (25%). However, he also issued seven walks, put a batter and threw three wild stands.
Commando has never been a very strong suit, but it is also understandable if there is a little rust after initially being diagnosed with elbow inflammation at the end of February and did not get back to a hill until May 24. run.
Penrod will give the Dodgers a loud throwing-left with clear bat ability and, as critical, a complete lead of three minor option years left. Los Angeles has broken through the last few places of his Bullpen just like – if not more than – any other team in the sport, so flexible arms with the general skill of Penrod will always be a little attractive to the Dodgers.
