The Reds announced this morning that they have designated infilder Garrett Hampson for command. Outside Receive Hindes was recalled in a corresponding move to the Major League timetable. In addition, the Reds withdrew the third Baseman Jeimer Candelario from his rehabilitation assignment.

Hampson, 30, signed a big league agreement with the Reds last month. He worked with Cincinnati in a bank role and appeared in just nine games over his Reds champion, with 3-by-18 with a double, hiking and six strokes, while dividing time between the second base, third base, short-stop, left field and midfield. That versatility is that Hampson kept on Big League grids for parts of eight MLB seasons. A third round by the Rockies in 2016, he made his Big League debut in 2018 and hit well in a short cup of coffee. It was a strong enough debut to put him on the map as a top 100 outlook in the 2019 season, but his offensive numbers did not have a larger sample size. Hampson finally only hit .233/.292/.369 from 2019 to 2022 as a member of the Rockies before he was not tender during the off-season of 2022-23.

He signed with the Marlins after he came loose in Colorado and enjoyed the best season of his career in Miami. In 98 games with the club that year, Hampson thrived in a part-time role, while cutting a roughly league average .276/.349/.380 in 252 trips to the board while playing everywhere in his typical utility. The show was enough to get a big league agreement of the Royals last year, but unfortunately he has been turning to his previous light form since leaving Miami. In 140 matches for Kansas City, Arizona and Cincinnati over the past two years, he only beat .218/.282/.280 and hit a 25.8% clamp. The Reds will now have one week to trade Hampson or to try to pass him through direct waiver, although he has enough service time to reject a direct assignment in favor of free agency.

More to come.
