Accident details
Of the 21 passengers, eight disappeared and 13 thankfully survived. One of those survivors was the balloon pilot who confessed to the incident.
“According to the pilot, who is one of the survivors, a fire began inside the basket, so he started sitting the balloon, and when the balloon was very close to the land, he told the people to jump,” Tiago Luiz Lemos, Praia Grande police station told the incident.
“They started jumping, but some people failed. The flames began to grow and because of the weight, the balloon began to rise again.

It is clear in one of those videos that, unfortunately, a person was thrown out of the balloon before he could go down. It is not clear in the media reports only as they were able to jump as the pilot guided and if it was, in fact, effective in salvation of life.
A spare burner in the basket had lit up making the pilot go down, but it was not enough. Authorities evacuated passengers and cleared the area for further explosions and the fire could spread from the gas around the starting area. The incident happened on June 21, 2025 and it is not clear at the time of writing if those who initially survived will be able to recover.
